A Few Thoughts for the New Year

Happy New Year
In the blink of an eye, another year has passed. At the start of a new year, we are all used to wishing each other a "Happy New Year." But is the New Year really a happy year? Not necessarily! Looking back on the past year, there were still many disappointing, sorrowful, and catastrophic events. Political situations remain chaotic and unstable. On the international stage, "nation rises against nation, and people against people," and "revenge is repaid without end." Beneath the surface prosperity of the Greater Seattle area, many unresolved issues persist. As we face the new year, may Nehemiah's words to a group of people willing to follow God be our encouragement: "Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength." (Nehemiah 8:10) In the new year, let us renew our lives, live out the testimony of life, and truly experience a joyful new year.
A Message for the New Year
"Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23) Thank God! He gives us the hope of a fresh start every day. May we embrace a lively new hope in the new year because of God's abundant love.
Starting Anew from the Heart
In mid-November, a powerful bomb cyclone struck Seattle, toppling countless tree branches of all sizes and scattering them across gardens and rooftops. Even now, the cleanup remains incomplete. I look forward to the arrival of the New Year, not only because the garden can be tidied up again, but also so God will get rid of any distracting thoughts in my heart that are not in line with His will. "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." (Psalm 51:10)
Trying a New Perspective
Face the sun, and your shadow will fall behind you; continually look to the Lord, and human shadows will disappear.
Instead of “looking out over” and being disappointed, "look up" and have hope. (Excerpted from "Voice of God and Men,” Issue 258, p.5)
The Crown of Years
Thank God! "You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance." (Psalm 65:11) May the Lord’s grace be with you always! Blessings for a prosperous new year!
