Mission Legacy
Elder Lei Wang (SEA-Mandarin)
This past summer, the Seattle Mandarin Congregation’s joint Sunday school theme was “Mission Legacy.” Elder William He , Elder Sam Wei and his wife, and Brother Larry Liu shared God’s call of when the Evangelical Chinese Church of Seattle was first established. Their mission was to build a Mandarin-speaking church and share the gospel with the Chinese community in the Seattle area. Although the church’s meeting location changed several times, under God’s guidance, the parent church eventually settled into its current building in Ballard. Looking back, this was not an ideal place for a church primarily serving the Chinese community, as there were hardly any Chinese people living nearby. Nevertheless, with generations of believers committed to reaching out to the Chinese, and through God’s grace and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the church has grown in size and has even established several other churches in the Greater Seattle area.
Now that the Evangelical Chinese Church has passed the so-called “knowing destiny” age, its mission remains unchanged. God continues to bring Chinese people worldwide to the Greater Seattle area. Recently, He blessed the church with the Edmonds campus, which features the large parking lot we have always dreamed of. The area has a substantial Chinese population, is conveniently located, and even has a large Chinese supermarket nearby. It is truly an excellent place for evangelism! Pastor Qian Bin has mentioned on various occasions that the proportion of Chinese believers in the Lord is around 5% or lower. Now, God’s leading us to such a field for evangelism certainly has His divine purpose. When the purchase of the Edmonds campus was completed, many brothers and sisters were very excited, as it was close to home and convenient. More importantly, they knew that having many Chinese people in the community would make it easier to invite their gospel-seeking friends to church and encourage them to attend on their own.
Before the first Sunday worship service on August 4th, some members of the New Life Fellowship reached out to their colleagues in the North District and expressed their eagerness to attend and serve at the Edmonds campus. The New Life Fellowship traditionally holds an outdoor evangelistic gathering every summer, but this year, with all the nearby parks already booked, they held their gathering at the Edmonds campus on the evening of August 3rd. Pastor Ting, Elder Lin Fangbiao, and his wife were present to meet and encourage the families who would attend services at the Edmonds campus and pray for them. They went with a sense of mission in their hearts. May the Lord greatly use them, and may they work together with the brothers and sisters from the North District to actively engage in ministry and advance the gospel with unity and purpose.
Isaiah 6:8: “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’”
