Our Spiritual Family
Pastor Solomon Liu
As a parent, there’s no greater joy than to journey spiritually with your children. One of the ways our family does this is through doing devotional reading together. Many years ago, when our older girls were very young, Julie and I did the 40 Days of Purpose study with them. We would sit on the ground and read the passages together, giving each of our girls a journal and having them draw a picture in response to the daily question. While they may not have been able to comprehend all the truths at their young age, they vividly remember the act of us going through the study as a family, and have fond memories of drawing and talking about our faith together. We kept these journals, and every once in a while, we would look at their drawings and get a kick out of them. They are hilarious and so very priceless!
Well, you can imagine our excitement when our congregation decided to go through 40 Days of Purpose again. Our family would journey together again, and this time not just with our older girls, but also with our youngest, who is still in elementary school.
The devotional that we are reading this week talks about the significance of belonging to a Spiritual Family, how we were not meant to walk this journey of faith alone. God has blessed us with a spiritual family to belong to and journey with together. What a tremendous blessing. As a family, we rejoiced for the Spiritual Family that God blessed us with, in ECC. We gave thanks to God for the brothers and sisters and Uncles and Aunties whom we love so dearly.
I hope and pray for every one of us, that we not take our Spiritual Family for granted, but rather learn to appreciate this special blessing God has given to us. May we learn to love and care for one another, deepen our relationships with one another, and encourage and link arms with one another as we trek this Spiritual Journey together.
May we indeed practice what Hebrews 10:24-25 exhorts us to do: spurring one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
My beloved Brothers and Sisters, let’s journey together!
