My Sabbatical Year
Elder Sam Wan
After completing two terms of serving in the Church Board and the Elder Board, I have been taking a sabbatical this year. This sabbatical year has been beneficial to me as I have been able to take a rest from the responsibilities of chairing the Church Board and take a break from meetings and other board duties. It has allowed me time to reflect on how the Lord has blessed me through serving in His church. As I enjoy the remainder of this summer, I am taking a moment to reflect and count His blessings. There is much to be thankful for this year.
Since Pastor Tim’s retirement in March, I have been taking an active role in the Redmond Cantonese congregation. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve in the ministry. God continues to lead and bless all aspects of the RED-Cantonese ministry despite the uncertainties and adjustments due to COVID-19. As we await the arrival of a new pastor or minister to shepherd the congregation, the ministry continues to thrive with the support of Minister Wendy Choy. As we seek God’s guidance and timing in sending His servant to our congregation, I praise God for the faithful brothers and sisters who have stepped up and actively participated in various ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit, our members are serving with one accord, supporting and building up one another. Our members also care for and watch out for one another. We are learning to trust God's leading and be patient with His timing in sending His servant to us.
Last week, through the inspiring messages from Rev. Cecilia Yau, speaker for this year’s Joint Cantonese Summer Retreat, we were encouraged to “Regain Our Freedom, Love God and Love His People” (Retreat theme). May the Holy Spirit continue to strengthen both our desire to love God and our passion to care for His people.
As we are approaching September, the start of ECC’s new ministry year, six members from our congregation responded to the call to serve in the Redmond Cantonese Congregational Council and the Church Board for the next three years. Let us support them with our prayers; may God guide them and give them wisdom and strength as they serve. Please respond to them positively when they seek your help in assisting them to fulfill their responsibilities in our church. I am looking forward to serving with them.
