Our Majestic God
Verse for Meditation:
“How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!” – Psalm 139:17
This month, we’re reflecting on God’s nature and character to help us find rest in the Lord. This week’s devotion focuses on God’s majesty and ensures us of our unbounded possibilities in Him:
IN WORD – We’re amazed at human ingenuity: the planning and talent put into a work of art, a successful business, or a dazzling performance. We’re mystified by the scientific discoveries of our age that have revealed more and more intricacies and design than we ever thought. We’re easily impressed with our findings.
Yet we rarely appreciate the Founder who created this universe. Have we become convinced by the lie that it may have “just happened”? Or is creation just too overwhelming to even begin to understand? Whatever the reason, the complexities of time and space, matter and energy, and life and relationships are mind-boggling. We find order and design wherever we turn. We discover a Master Intelligence behind everything we see, whether we see it through a microscope or a telescope.
Think about the amount of planning that went into creation. Our God is the mastermind behind both macro-majesties and micro-marvels. Our understanding stretches millions of light-years, but still to only a fraction of all there is. Our insights discern distinct atomic particles, but we still don’t really know what makes them spin. We cannot begin to comprehend the extremes that we can imagine. Eternity without time? Space with undiscovered limits and irregularities? An infinite God with infinite attributes? Unlimited wisdom, power, and love? Boundless grace? We just don’t get it. We can’t. We’re too small, too finite, and too confined by our natural senses. The things of eternity elude our understanding.
IN DEED – Get comfortable with that. We will spend an eternity exploring God, and we should begin now. Let yourself be in awe. Think about the imagination and power that went into a sunset, a mountain range, our human physiology, the wisdom of Scriptures, or the plan of the Kingdom of God. Stand amazed in His presence. Worship begins with an understanding of our inability to understand. It silences our complaints and captures our hearts. It believes God is astoundingly precious. “We seem to have lost the vision of the majesty of God.” – John Stott (in “Worship the King,” by Chris Tiegreen)
Do you need to be reminded of God’s Majesty? Take time to read Psalms 92 – 100 this week, one or two psalms a day, and be reminded of God’s grandeur and supernatural being. As He reigns above Creation, He is truly majestic! If this is so, then His ways are far higher than ours and His possibilities are beyond our imagination. Isn’t that wonderful to know? Have a blessed week! – from Singapore, Pastor Sam
