Reflection on 21 Years at ECC
Pastor Solomon Liu
Time truly flies when you're having fun. It’s hard to believe that 21 years have passed since I first came on board to serve at ECC. While 21 years might seem like a long time, in many ways, it feels like it’s gone by in the blink of an eye. Honestly, it still feels like I’m on a honeymoon—deeply loving and feeling loved by the ECC community.
As I look back on these years, my heart is filled with gratitude. I love ECC. It’s the community where my children have grown up and where our lives have become intimately intertwined with the brothers and sisters here. The relationships we’ve built have been a constant source of strength and encouragement. I remember times when we had the chance to get away for the weekend, but our girls would choose to stay in town just to be at church. That speaks volumes.
Maybe it’s because we’re boring and don’t have anything better to do—or maybe, just maybe, it’s because we passionately love what God is doing in this church and simply can’t get enough of it.
I love ECC because it is firmly committed to the Word of God. It strives to be a missional church—one driven by God’s purpose. I love that during times of social unrest and political division, ECC intentionally centers itself on the Gospel. I love that ECC’s growth isn’t generated by human effort. Over the years, individuals have come and gone, yet ECC continues to move forward, sustained by God’s faithful providence. I also love that we’re a multigenerational church, made up of people from all stages of life, young and old, from little children to elderly uncles and aunties, just like a family.
As I plan for my sabbatical, my prayer for ECC is that, while we are far from perfect and continue to face various challenges, we will keep growing closer to Christ as His beloved bride. I’m so thankful for the rich history we share and all that God has done, and I look forward to the bright future He has in store for us.
