Time Well Spent
Pastor Ray Choi
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others,
as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
1 Peter 4:10
I’ve been blessed to have been used by God in so many different ways. Different seasons have called for different gifts to be used depending on what is needed for the ministry. It’s also funny how I’ve picked up skills in unexpected ways while serving as well.
Every time I see the church gather together, I see it as an opportunity to serve. I don’t wait for people to ask for help, but rather I take the initiative to see how I can be of service to others. There were definitely times when I volunteered for something and felt like I was in over my head, and that’s ok, as scary as it may sound. God was able to use me during those times because I simply said yes to Him despite knowing my shortcomings and inadequacies.
One of my pet peeves is watching the meeting room go quiet when somebody asks for help or when it’s time to assign tasks. “Can someone pray?” Everybody looks down. “Could I get a volunteer who could help with _____?” And sometimes the response from people is, “Let’s assign it to so and so because they’re not here!” As busy as I may be, I also see it as an opportunity to be used by God.
Taking initiative does not come easy for many of us. It is much easier to let someone else handle it. It is easier to deceive ourselves into thinking that we are incapable. It is much easier to allow those with more experience and more skill to handle such things when God really wants to use little ol’ me instead, and all that He requires from me is to take a step forward when my number is called.
